Costume and Makeup

1940s Costume

Girl-Thick skirt, blouse, cardigan, loafer flats and shoes.

Boy- Cap, shirt, smart trousers, shoes, jumper and suspenders.

Our 1940's male costume
We chose this outfit as we felt it was the most accurate outfit for the time, it originally included suspenders, which we were actually able to attain, however they were not practical during the running scene, so we had to remove them from the costume.

We were inspired by Peter's costume in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

We tried several different options for the 1940's female's costume as seen below, we wanted a costume that represented the clothing of the era and would be authentic to the times, however we also needed our actress Georgia to feel comfortable in the costume and to be able to run in it.

We chose this costume as we felt it was the most historically accurate to the 1940s and Georgia was able to run in it.
Hair and Makeup

We were slightly concerned about how much makeup to use on our actress as she is playing a younger teenager and we wanted it to be accurate, however they makeup would need to be visible in the long shots and pan, meaning it needed to be slightly more obvious. We were also keen to represent the historical context of our film through the makeup, as at this time bold eye and lip makeup was popular and commonly seen in hollywood films.

For her hair we decided to something reminicent of the traditional pin curls of the time, however we needed to use a style that represented the hairstyles popular at the time but would also need to withstand the wind, rain and the running scenes.

Modern Day Costumes

A mood-board of how teenagers commonly dress, to inspire us and to draw on while we design our costumes.
Our actors suggested their costumes from their own wardrobes and we then approved their final decisions.
We chose to dress our modern day characters in casual, contemporary dress like dress, coats, hoodies and jeans. We would like a variation in the costumes of our characters, our aims are two have the two boys in jeans, one with a hoodie and one with a jumper. One of the two girls would be wearing a dress and coat and the other jeans and a T-shirt, we hope this would make the characters more relatable to our target audience.
