Locations For Our Film

Our film concept revolves around a cold war bunker as we knew of a location to base the film around and we wanted to capture the feeling of isolation and claustrophobia. We also need to film the interior of the bunker and a slightly overgrown field to run across.

This is the bunker a majority of our film is focused in and around, it was an cold war observation bunker in the 1950s. It is at the top of the hill in Ashwell, about twenty minutes on foot up hill from the center of the village or a 2 minute drive. The drive to the bunker from Baldock is between 15 and 20 minutes.

An advantage of this location is that it is authentic and privately own by some of our close family friends so we are able to film in it without interruption with a flexible shooting schedule allowing us to film early in the morning to achieve the best possible lighting.

A disadvantage of this is that to get to the interior of the bunker you must climb down a ladder around twenty-feet long with equipment, while this has proven difficult we have managed to get all our actors and equipment down their previously so while it is a challenge it is possible.

This is the interior of the bunker. It has quite a few issues in regards to 1940s in authenticity however we are allowed to remove posters from the walls and move furniture so with a little work and some set dressing we could make this more authentic and realistic to build tension. A disadvantage is that it will be difficult to light as it is underground with no natural light coming in.

This is a backup/emergency location which is actually located in school grounds, this is a steam tunnel in our school which was build in 1939 during world war two, we have been given permission to use this by our school's caretakers . This could be very practical as it allows us to film in school hours, for example free periods and lunchtimes making it easier to schedule filming with our actors. It also a lot less lower down than the other bunker, this one is only around ten feet down making it safer to descend into it. However we would be restricted in the hours and days we could use the location as the school is closed at the weekend.

We need a field with some trees on one side for one shot in our opening, we plan to film this in Ivel Springs as it is local in Baldock so it would be easy for all our actors to get to it and there are several local places to go for shelter if it rains.
